Oct 7, 2007 · I am in need of some load suggestions for my new Ruger 77 Hawkeye 7mm-08. I presently have a box of 139 Hornady sst bullets to load. I have on hand H414, IMR4064, and H4350 powders to try. Also have CCI200 primers. I figured I would load some of each powder to start off with, but would really appreicate some insight to your experience with this ... Jul 15, 2020 · Posts: 73. Central Pennsylvania. I've been loading for a new model 70 for in 7mm-08. So far it shoots well provided the bullets are 140 grains and the powder is IMR 4350. Velocity with 46grs and a 140 Nosler BT is 2600fps over my chronograph. 47grs and a 139gr Hornady flatbase is 2700. Accuracy is around an inch or slightly over at 100 yards. 127 posts · Joined 2014. #18 · Feb 14, 2020. I load for five different 7mm-08 and settled on 140-145 gr bullets. Best powder I've found so far for that weight is RL-17 and IMR-4350. I have a solid load for 140 gr Nosler Partitions, Accubond and Sierra Game Kings: 45.6 grs I-4350, CCI BR-2 Primers and Lapua Brass.

Mar 13, 2012 · I have 7mm-08's both short 20" and 21" in length. I used H-414, IMR-4064, WW-760, and Big Game recently. I have used H-380 but it does have pressure issues at the top when temps rose above 65 deg for me. @42.0 grains of Varget under most 140's works well just have to adjust overall length if magazine allows. I know that to get the best performance out of these kind of bullets, you need to be on the higher end of in terms of velocity. I usually really like 140 gr Barnes TTSX (can't find any, anywhere) for my Savage 7mm-08 using 43.6 grains of RL-15 - good accuracy and no obvious pressure signs. Hornady's 10th ed. obviously doesn't have any load data ...The load data indicates that the 7mm-08 can push the 175-grain Nosler Partition to over 2,600 fps with StaBall 6.5; I got 2,615 fps with three-shot groups printing 1.1 inches at 100 yards. Those 175s are certainly long and can eat up a bunch of room inside the case; using a ball powder will help combat that fact. ….

I have tried staball 6.5 in my wife's Sav axis youth in 7mm-08. The accuacy wasn't anything to write home about but it was ok for a cheaper hunting rifle. I worked up loads with the 139 i-lock using the Winchester min to Max (51gr), I found 47 to 48 gr loads were printing 1moa groups. While I don't have a 7-08 I have used IMR 4064 in .257 Roberts, .30-06 and .35 Whelen, in my experience it has given me better accuracy than Varget and RL-15. But who knows every rifle is an individual, might as well try Varget and RL-15 as they are good choices.

And 6.5 bullets are a few bucks cheaper. But 7mm-08 brass is cheaper/better, and Lapua 308's neck down to 7mm very nicely.
